Pirelli’s tire choices for Hungary
The Italian manufacturer will bring its C2, C3, and C4 compounds to the Hungaroring. Pirelli also specified that three teams will stay in Hungary to test the 18-inch tires.

The choice of these tires is justified by the nature of the track. It is said to be old-fashioned and consists of a series of non-stop turns, which means that the tires are constantly working, without rest.
The Head of F1 for Pirelli, Mario Isola, does not expect any new developments in the performance of the tires, but he specifies that they will need to be taken care of, especially the soft ones:
« On the tire side, we do not expect any big surprises from the Hungaroring, which is a constant on the calendar and marks the end of the first half of the season.
« The determining characteristic of the track is all the tight corners that quickly follow one another, without long straight lines to cool the tires, especially in hot weather. This makes the Hungaroring more demanding on the tires than it may seem at first, so a certain degree of management will probably be necessary on the soft compound in particular. As a result, the best strategy is not always obvious – with different approaches often resulting in a similar overall race time, depending on individual circumstances.
« That is why we have often seen tactically intriguing races at the Hungaroring, keeping the final result uncertain until the end and offering an interesting challenge for the engineers.
Three teams under review after the Grand Prix
Pirelli also stated in its press release that Ferrari, Mercedes, and McLaren will stay in Hungary on Tuesday and Wednesday to conduct tests with the 18-inch slick tires, which will be introduced next year.
