Hungarian Grand Prix – Mercedes is playing with Red Bull

At the end of the qualifying session, we feel that Mercedes wants to psychologically undermine the Red Bull team before the summer break. A good way to start Sunday's race on a high note!

A new controversy!

The incident between the two main contenders for the world title in the previous race has been ratified. But now a new controversy is fueling discussions at the end of these qualifying sessions.

After free practice sessions in favor of the Mercedes team, we noticed a hint of arrogance in the German team’s performance.

As they were about to start the final timed lap of the day, the Mercedes intentionally slowed down the progress of the two Red Bull drivers behind them.

Lewis Hamilton delayed his crossing of the line as much as possible to launch his attack on the time.

Max Verstappen could only suffer the psychological dominance of his rival, and owes his passage in time only to the second generously granted by Hamilton.

It is Sergio Perez who pays the price for this strategy. The red lights indicating the end of the session light up two seconds before he passes.

The Red Bull team is fuming, but can only admit defeat for this first round of a psychological war that began after the leaders’ crash at Silverstone.

A revenge from Mercedes?

Different attack plans between the two clans have been developed over the past 10 days, culminating in a new ruling on the accident that allowed Mercedes to emerge victorious from a first battle that will slowly deplete the troops of both teams.

Is this move by Mercedes at the end of Q3 a response to Red Bull’s request to reopen the investigation into the accident? A way to show them that they are fighting against opponents who are stronger?

In any case, this is not the last controversy of this season which is shaping up to be a particularly fierce battle for the world titles. For sure, no dirty trick will be forgotten.

Here is something that should give us an explosive new start this afternoon, especially since the Mercedes are starting on the front row on medium tires, but the Red Bulls behind will be on soft tires!
