The decision was made on Sunday evening at 10 p.m. The race commissioners decided to disqualify Sebastian Vettel from the Hungarian Grand Prix for not respecting article 6.6.2 of the 2021 Formula 1 technical regulations.

This article states that Formula 1 cars must contain at least 1 liter of fuel in the tank at the end of the Grand Prix.

The stewards gave several opportunities to the team to recover 1 liter of fuel from car number 5 but this was not possible. They were only able to recover 0.3 liters of fuel.

During the interrogation, the Aston Martin delegate stated that there were approximately 1.44 liters of fuel left in the single-seater, but they are not able to remove it for sampling.

In these conditions, the stewards had to apply the default penalty provided for in the regulations, which is nothing less than disqualification.

With this decision, Lewis Hamilton finally steps onto the second step of the podium in Hungary and Carlos Sainz takes the third place for Ferrari. Alonso finishes in fourth place, Gasly in fifth, and Tsunoda in sixth. Latifi and Russell are seventh and eighth, Verstappen finally in ninth, and Kimi Räikkönen scores the last point for Alfa Romeo.
