George Russell never gives up
In Hungary, George Russell scored his first points for Williams. Performances appreciated by Jost Capito. The team boss is full of praise for his driver.

Why do we fall? To better rise. After several failures, George Russell finally scored his first points aboard his Williams during the Hungarian Grand Prix. He finished in eighth place, leaving with four points. Ahead of him, his teammate, Nicholas Latifi, won six points. These are also the team’s first points in years.
A remarkable performance, but not surprising from the British driver. Earlier in the season, he came close to scoring a point. In Austria, Fernando Alonso overtakes him at the end of the race, preventing the Williams driver from finishing tenth. Instead of being discouraged by his setbacks, he did not hang his head and continued to move forward. Even better, Russell continues to work wonders with his car. He has finished in Q3 twice, outperforming better cars. He can rely on the support of his boss, Jost Capito. Impressed by his driver’s feats, Capito is happy to see his determination, beneficial for the team.
« If he gets hit, he comes back stronger. He thrives under pressure. The stronger the pressure, the better he becomes. Many people crumble under pressure, but Russell is completely different. The more pressure there is, the more he excels. »
In Hungary, Russell favored the team spirit. On the radio, he gave priority to Latifi’s strategy, who was ahead of him at that time. Capito commented on this, highlighting the teamwork of the English driver.
« It’s George’s incredible team spirit. He really puts the team first. It’s also the result of how he works with us and how the team works with him. For the drivers, the team comes first and they benefit from it, putting them in this position.
Capito shows all his admiration for Russell. He does not hesitate to praise his performances.
« This shows Russell’s thinking and how mature he is during the race. He analyzes the situation and reflects on what it means for the team if they have the opportunity. He does this throughout the race. Many drivers wouldn’t even think about it. He doesn’t need an engineer to tell him what the situation is.
A beautiful and sad visit to Mercedes.
Expected to join Mercedes in 2022 instead of Valtteri Bottas, George Russell continues to excel at Williams. His performances are not going unnoticed by other teams. In 2020, the British driver had to replace Lewis Hamilton, who tested positive for Covid-19, during the Sakhir Grand Prix. This was an opportunity for Mercedes to observe Russell in their car. They surely were not disappointed since the driver had been brilliant throughout the weekend. He even made a nice overtaking move on Bottas.

But the end of the race was rather sad for Russell. The German team completely messed up during the pit stops of its two drivers by mixing up the tires. As a result, Russell lost the lead of the race, only collecting three small points. After the Grand Prix, Russell had difficulty hiding his disappointment. Jost Capito commented on his driver’s emotions after this mishap.
He is very honest. He plays at nothing. He is a member of the team and does not want to let the team down as much as the team does not want to let him down. It was the greatest pressure you could put on any rider and he played brilliantly and that’s his attitude.
