Sergio Perez salutes the work of his mechanics
Perez played with bad luck and good luck during the Belgian Grand Prix. While he thought he would be disqualified from the race, he still started from the last position. The Mexican greatly appreciates the work of his mechanics for getting his car back on track.

As the driver had just extended his contract with Red Bull, Sergio Perez did not achieve great success during this weekend in Belgium. In difficult conditions, the Mexican still started in seventh position on the starting grid.
While he was doing a few laps on the wet track before the famous start, Perez hit the wall, destroying the front right of his car. The suspension and steering rack were particularly affected by the impact. He could not therefore take part in the race. He thought he was disqualified, but the weather was playing tricks and the start was postponed many times.
While the mechanics took advantage of the opportunity to repair the damage to the single-seater, Christian Horner asked the FIA if his second driver could finally take part in the race given the progress of his mechanics. A request accepted by Michael Masi, but Perez had to start from the back for the 6:17pm start. After a thorough consultation of the regulations, the Mexican was eligible to participate.
This mistake, however, cost him seventh place and important points in the constructors’ standings. The driver acknowledges his fault and prefers to salute the work of his team.
« The conditions were extremely difficult. My mistake was very costly. We lost some points there with my fall. My team’s work was incredible. They managed to fix it in a few minutes, and it was very impressive. It shows the Red Bull spirit. »
Christian Horner, the team boss, echoes the same sentiment. He highlights the work done by the mechanics under time pressure.
« After Checo’s unfortunate crash into the barrier, it was incredible to see our mechanics in action under pressure once again, repairing his car in the time they did. They gave him every chance to race.
