At Zandvoort, in his country, Max Verstappen arrives more determined than ever. The Red Bull driver is determined to take back the lead of the championship after this weekend. Only three points separate Lewis Hamilton and him. For the return of this circuit since 1985, the Dutchman is excited to race in front of his home crowd.

Before taking to the track for free practice on Friday, Verstappen wanted to react to this special circuit. While he is happy with the work done since its redesign, he hopes to have fun to achieve a good result.

I have to say they did an incredible job getting everything set up, especially to welcome the Grand Prix. I hope we can have a fun weekend with a good result. That’s always what you try to aim for, but I think we can have some fun on a Saturday once the fuel is running out.

The track has been redesigned starting in 2019 with steeper turns than Indianapolis and other turns allowing drivers to drive at high speed. After a long walk on the track this Thursday, Verstappen described these changes as “very special”.

« Everyone is very interested in the banked turns, and I must say that when you walk on the track, it feels very special. You don’t really see that on many other circuits. The last turn will be easy flat, but turn 3 gives you more opportunities in terms of lines you can take. »

The Dutchman does not hesitate to compare this circuit to Suzuka, the Japanese circuit canceled from the 2021 calendar.

« It’s a bit more old-school, like Suzuka. When you make a mistake, you can be more penalized. The same feeling is felt here as at Suzuka.
