AlphaTauri announces its drivers for 2022
Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda are staying with AlphaTauri in 2022. The two drivers say they are looking forward to seeing the upcoming season with the new era of F1.

It was the will of Franz Tost, the director of the AlphaTauri team. It is now official. Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda will continue to form the team’s duo until 2022. It seems that she wanted to wait for the confirmation of Sergio Perez’s extension at Red Bull to announce the news.
Indeed, this extension has closed the door to a possible return of Gasly to the main team. And it’s not to disappoint us. The Frenchman is having a very good season behind the wheel of his AlphaTauri and for now, it’s hard to imagine him elsewhere. He is enjoying himself and it shows on the track. Currently eighth in the driver standings, Gasly is putting together exceptional performances, like his fourth place at Zandvoort. Proud of his driver’s results, Tost is convinced that there is more to come. He can also rely on the positive relationship between the two drivers.
« Pierre’s development over the years has been impressive and during his time with us, he managed to climb onto the three steps of the podium. I am convinced that there is more to come and that is why we are thrilled to have him with us for another season. Also, he is using his experience in F1 to help Yuki in his development. We have seen that the positive relationship between the two, characterized by on-track competitiveness and off-track friendship, has proven effective for the team.

Although he hoped to join Red Bull next year, Gasly is still happy to continue the adventure with Scuderia AlphaTauri for a new season. And the numbers speak for themselves. While the season is not yet over, the Norman driver is at 66 points. Last year, he finished with 75 points. It’s already a successful season for him.
« I am very happy to continue with AlphaTauri for another season in F1. […] Given the performances we have shown so far this season, I think there are great things to achieve for the remainder of this season and for next year, especially with the upcoming changes in the championship in 2022. I am very excited to see what we can accomplish in the new era of F1. […] This year has been very fruitful so far, and I truly believe that we can work well together to do even better in 2022.
Tsunoda became the first Japanese driver to score points in his first F1 race. While his first season in F1 has been a bit tough, Red Bull remains confident in the young driver for a second year. The Japanese driver wants to seize this opportunity to further improve.
« I am really delighted to stay with AlphaTauri for a second season. It is an incredible opportunity and I am very grateful to the team for allowing me to continue developing my experience in Formula 1 with them. I have a very good relationship with Pierre, and I have already learned a lot from him this year, and his experience has helped me continue developing my own skills. […] I feel very good within the team and I am looking forward to the upcoming season.
