Jost Capito happy with Mercedes’ choice
Jost Capito is delighted to see Mercedes turning to Russell to replace Bottas. Williams is considering several options to replace their driver. Albon is the favorite.

If George Russell will be a Mercedes driver in just a few months, all eyes are already on him. The Williams driver has been making waves since the start of the season, and his new position in the German team rewards all the hard work done by the Briton.
Capito is not surprised to see Russell at Mercedes. For him, the young driver has been progressing for several years to reach this stage. This season, he scored his first 13 points in F1 including a podium in Belgium following his qualifying performance. Capito can see his driver succeeding alongside Lewis Hamilton. A great reward for Russell.
» Over the past three years, it has become clear to every member of staff here at Williams how dedicated, focused, and talented George is through his contributions to the team both on and off the track. He has all the necessary characteristics to achieve great success in our sport and we are therefore thrilled for him, both as a team and personally, to see him rewarded with the opportunity to test himself at Mercedes. We will follow his progress with interest and pride, knowing the role that Williams has played in developing his skills significantly.
But Capito admits that Williams is considering many options to replace its driver. Alex Albon, the former Red Bull driver, who is looking to find a seat, is being talked about. He is even the favorite to drive for Williams. The team’s director prefers to take his time and even states that the announcement of their new team will be made in due course.
We were of course aware of the realization of this possibility and therefore have a number of solid driver options available to us. We are now looking forward to shaping our future team that will help us take the next step in our exciting journey as a team, and we will make an announcement in due course.
