Italian Grand Prix – Verstappen: « It went better than expected
Despite a low-performing Red Bull this weekend, Max Verstappen made the most of his equipment and will start in 1st place for tomorrow's race.

The young Dutch man never ceases to impress. Struggling since the start of the weekend, Red Bull doesn’t seem to measure up to the Mercedes monster at Monza. However, firmly rooted, Verstappen outpaces the very quick McLarens on Friday.
3rd on the grid, the leader of the 2021 Formula 1 championship takes advantage of Valtteri Bottas’ slipstream to pass his rival for the world title.
Sailing in 2nd place throughout all 18 race laps, Verstappen brings home two valuable points but above all the first place on the grid thanks to Bottas’ engine penalties.
First of all, it’s amazing to be here. The Italian fans are incredible, there is so much passion, it’s a pleasure to see.
The race went better than expected. I got off to a good start and we finished 2nd. Although I start in pole position tomorrow, all the drivers behind me are very fast so it won’t be easy.
