Italian Grand Prix – Ricciardo: An incredible result for the team
Daniel Ricciardo had a superb race today by clinching his first victory since Monaco 2018.
After numerous setbacks at the beginning of the season, Daniel Ricciardo finally understood his new machine. It was a completely mastered weekend for the Australian who, as early as the Friday qualifications, showed a very good pace by finishing just a few thousandths behind his teammate.
He confirmed this good form on Friday during the sprint qualifying by finishing 3rd. A great result made possible thanks to a very good start. The number 3 driver showed the same determination on Sunday by overtaking Max Verstappen right at the start and taking the lead of the Grand Prix.
Almost never worried throughout the race, Daniel Ricciardo superbly led his Grand Prix and triumphs with panache ahead of his garage neighbor Lando Norris and the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas: “The start went well for me. But afterwards, there was no guarantee of always being ahead, so I am happy to have had a good relay and held Max Verstappen behind me.”
I’ve been a little withdrawn since the beginning of the year but since the summer break I feel much better and it’s an incredible result for the team.
Such a result allows Ricciardo to regain the 8th position in the driver’s championship ahead of Pierre Gasly. Big points that also allow his team McLaren to regain the 3rd position in the constructor’s standings.
