It was an almost anonymous race for Esteban Ocon who never seemed to be a contender for points.

Esteban Ocon had a satisfying Saturday by reaching Q3 alongside Fernando Alonso. A good effort but the Frenchman had completed a lap six tenths slower than his garage neighbor. A difference that could be explained by the fact that Ocon had only completed one lap on his soft tires.

Like many drivers around him, Esteban Ocon started on the medium tires and made a good start to hold onto his 9th position.

On the 16th lap, the Norman got rid of his tires and put on hard tires with the goal of finishing the Grand Prix.

For a long time at the points door, Esteban Ocon is gradually overtaken by drivers who opted for an alternative strategy. All his hopes of scoring points are crushed by the rain due to a pit stop for intermediates that was too late. He crosses the finish line in 14th position.

« The start was good, we had a good first round. After that, the rest of the race was extremely frustrating. We were very slow, we couldn’t catch up with the cars in front, we degraded the tires a lot.

Towards the end, we didn’t make the right decision with the intermediate tires, we tried to stay on the track but there is not much positive to take away from this race.
