Williams wanted to replace Russell with Magnussen
Former F1 driver Kevin Magnussen reveals in his book "All or Nothing" that he was approached by Williams in late 2020. The Dane had been considered as a replacement for George Russell.

Magnussen is currently a driver in the WeatherTech sports car championship in America with already one victory to his name. On the occasion of the release of his new book, the former F1 driver at Haas indicates that he was approached by Williams in 2020.
« I was a bit at a standstill in Formula 1, but I had a chance to stay because I had contacts with Williams, said Magnussen, according to the Danish TV channel TV3.
The only condition for his arrival at Williams was to find money or sponsors to bring with him. This condition prevented the conclusion of an agreement. But what most convinced Magnussen not to accept this offer was the fact that he would have replaced Russell and not Latifi, as he expected.
« Williams saw me as a possible replacement for George Russell. “What kind of team is this,” I thought. Dropping Russell and keeping Nicholas Latifi was ridiculous, pure stupidity. », explains Magnussen.
For him, George Russell is a great talent who won Formula 2 at the end of his first season and should not have left Formula 1 so early. Kevin Magnussen today reveals he is no longer interested in Formula 1.
