Hamilton could avoid changing the engine by the end of the season
The Mercedes team has confirmed that Lewis Hamilton will probably not take a new engine at the Mexican Grand Prix. The manufacturer believes it has identified the main reason for the reliability issue.

Mercedes engines have been suffering from a reliability issue for a few weeks. Valtteri Bottas has had to change engine parts several times because of this. Mercedes customer teams have also been affected. McLaren, Aston Martin, and Williams are also experiencing issues with this Mercedes engine. However, team principal Toto Wolff has announced that the team has identified the cause of the problem.
« I think we feel more confident about a particular problem that seems to be resolved,” says the Austrian.
In addition to being confident that Lewis Hamilton’s engine does not need to be changed for the Mexican Grand Prix, Toto Wolff even believes there is a chance that it will not need to be changed until the end of the season.
« We decide: do we need to take the penalty or not? Here, we will certainly not take it. And maybe we won’t need it until the end of the season. », Toto Wolff confides to Motorsport.com.
A welcome relief for Lewis Hamilton’s team, which badly needs to avoid unnecessary penalties, risking a catastrophic 25-0 score in the title fight.
