São Paulo Grand Prix – Free Practice 2: Alonso first, Red Bull just behind
At the end of the second practice session, Alpine had a strong performance, with Alonso leading and Ocon in 4th place. Verstappen finished 2nd, while his rival Lewis Hamilton was only in 5th place.
The first 20 minutes
A very calm start to the session despite all the rumors causing a stir in the paddock following the FIA investigation into Lewis Hamilton’s car. After twenty minutes of racing, Verstappen leads the session with a time of 1.12.102 on soft (red) tires followed by Esteban Ocon (+0.984) on medium (yellow) tires and Perez (+1.117) on soft tires like his teammate. The two Mercedes have still not left the garage.
At midday
Alonso’s Alpine takes the lead of this session with a time of 1:11.238 followed by Verstappen (+0.864) and Ocon (+1.169). The three drivers are on soft tires.
The last 20 minutes
Alonso keeps his first place in this second free practice session with a time of 1.11.238. Verstappen is just behind (+0.864) and the Mercedes of Bottas (+1.117)
The French driver Esteban Ocon finished in fourth place in the session.
