During the São Paulo Grand Prix, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton engaged in an intense battle for victory. On the 48th lap, the Briton attempted an overtaking move on the outside at turn 4 on the championship leader, but the two men ended up in the escape area without making contact.

A few moments later, the incident was noted, but the race management did not deem it necessary to open an investigation, despite Mercedes’ requests. This Tuesday, F1 released a new video of the maneuver, from a different angle, which is none other than Max Verstappen’s onboard camera, pointing at his steering wheel.

Shortly after the release of this video, Mercedes issued a brief statement in which it indicates:

« Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team confirms that today it requested a right to review, in accordance with Article 14.1.1 of the International Sporting Code, regarding the incident at Turn 4 between Car 44 and Car 33 during the 48th lap of the 2021 São Paulo Grand Prix, based on new evidence that was not available to the stewards at the time of their decision. »

Mercedes’ request could then be examined and an investigation could be opened regarding this incident. The further examination is now in the hands of the commissioners.
