Pérez “vital” in the race for Red Bull titles
Red Bull is in a tight race for the constructor and driver championships against Mercedes. In this competition, the team is relying heavily on its second driver, Sergio Perez.

With still two races left in the 2021 season, Sergio Pérez still has a decisive role to play. The Mexican is in the best form of his season even though he has sometimes shown difficulties in qualifying, notably with an 11th place at the Qatar Grand Prix. Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull, has shared his thoughts on the importance of his second driver for the title race.
« He is vital. He will play a crucial role in these two upcoming races – just like Valtteri [Bottas]. »
« I think we need Checo. He’s been in good form lately, finding his marks and confidence in the car. And really since, I would say, roughly since Monza, his performances have grown and grown and grown. I think we really need him there for the next two weekends,” explains Christian Horner.
The Mexican’s weekend in Jeddah didn’t start in the best way during the free practice sessions, being nearly half a second behind his teammate, Max Verstappen. Sergio Pérez confirmed that he was far from his maximum potential on this track.
I think there is much more to come tomorrow. So, I hope we can find the right balance, the right pace to be in contention for tomorrow.
« I think it will be an interesting race. A lot of things can happen – we saw Charles [Leclerc] today. It’s a track where, if you make a mistake, it can be extremely costly. So we just need to stay on the track and be there as much as possible. », concluded Sergio Perez.
