Max Verstappen is the Formula 1 World Champion of 2021 after an epic final lap during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Dutch driver will receive his trophy on Thursday, December 16th, during a gala organized by the FIA. This evening is an opportunity to take a photo of all the winning cars from each category of motorsport, a tradition that Mercedes has decided to boycott this year.

The German team has, according to De Telegraaf, decided not to send their cars, both F1 and FE. A decision that clearly illustrates the tense situation between the FIA and Mercedes. And as the gala is rapidly approaching, Mercedes would apparently be absent from it, according to De Telegraaf. Strong decisions to protest against the FIA and the incidents of the final lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

As a reminder, Mercedes still has a few hours to submit their file and appeal against the decision of the FIA. Boycott decisions that seem to confirm Mercedes’ desire to file an appeal.
