Wolff is trying to turn the page
More than a week after Hamilton's defeat against Verstappen, the realization remains hard to swallow for the losers. But despite that, Toto Wolff is trying to put things into perspective and move on.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be remembered: it was during the final lap of the 2021 season that the title was decided. Hamilton was overtaken by Max Verstappen and saw his eighth title and record go up in smoke. Since then, Hamilton has not posted any updates on his social media platforms, and Toto Wolff is trying his best to put things into perspective.
“It’s just Formula 1, it’s just a sport. There are much worse things happening and we shouldn’t fall into the trap of thinking it’s the most important thing in the world,” Toto Wolff said during a press conference.
But if the boss of Mercedes tries to turn the page, it is however more complicated for Lewis Hamilton. The British driver seems to be facing the biggest challenge of his career and the hardest disappointment to bear. The seven-time world champion is 36 years old and there are doubts about a possible retirement. One thing is for sure, Toto Wolff hopes to see Hamilton continue to drive for Mercedes in 2022.
« He is at the top of his game, but we have to overcome the pain that was inflicted on him on Sunday. He is a man with clear values, so he struggles to understand how this happened. », concluded Wolff.
Mercedes will be determined to come back in top form in 2022, with their driver duo of Hamilton and Russell, if Hamilton doesn’t retire by then… A 2022 season that will be completely unpredictable with the arrival of new regulations.
