Horner extends with Red Bull until 2026
After a crazy season for Red Bull, their team manager, Christian Horner, has had his contract extended until 2026. A logical decision after leading the team to a victory in the drivers' championship with Max Verstappen.
Red Bull has returned to the throne at the end of this season. Although the team could not win the constructors’ championship title, it secured the most important one, the drivers’ championship.
And this victory was the result of the work of Max Verstappen and the entire team, but also of Christian Horner, the one leading the Red Bull team. The British man has been in position since 2005 and notably experienced the successes from 2010 to 2013 with Sebastian Vettel’s four world champion titles.
Christian Horner has been accompanied by Helmut Marko since 2005, who recounts his relationship with Horner over the years.
« Christian is the team manager, he is more in the public eye and I am more in the background. But we coordinate things quite well, we set the direction of the team, and also our staff. In political matters, we generally speak the same language, and I believe our success proves us right. », Helmut Marko reveals.
A contract that therefore extends until 2026 with regulations for the new engines in Formula 1. A choice that aims to maintain a certain stability within the team in order to face the transitions that Formula 1 will undergo.
Within the entire team, or at least in the higher positions, we want to have stability for the upcoming years of transition, when the new engine regulations and the new chassis regulations come into effect, so that we have a strong team for that, explains Marko.
Red Bull will now turn to extending another key member of the team, Max Verstappen. His contract expires at the end of 2023, and the Dutchman has expressed his desire to stay at Red Bull after his victory in Abu Dhabi: “I am very happy where I am right now, and I hope we can do it together for another 10 or 15 years.”
