The new Alpine engine seems promising
After a good 2021 season marked by two podiums, Alpine approaches 2022 with ambition in hopes of closing the gap with the top teams. But for that, the new engine for the next season must be more powerful.

As the upcoming season approaches, teams are starting to test the components of their 2022 cars, including the engine. According to sources from a German media outlet, the new Renault engine for Alpine has shown very promising figures during tests conducted at their base in Viry-Châtillon.
Indeed, this engine should be much more powerful than the previous one. Alpine has only made minimal changes to their car from 2019 to 2021 and even stopped improving it after the Baku Grand Prix in 2021. The team was able to quickly focus on the 2022 car with promising tests, the only question mark being the engine reliability.
If we can stabilize the engine, we will take a big step forward, indicates an undisclosed source to AMuS.
Alpine has nevertheless achieved good performances with a victory in Hungary for Ocon and a podium for Alonso in Qatar. The French team finishes the season fifth in the constructor’s championship just ahead of AlphaTauri.
And the engine is not the only way for Alpine to progress in 2022. Indeed, the departure of Aston Martin team director, Otmar Szafnauer, opens up several possibilities. One of them would be to see Szafnauer at Alpine next season. It would be a significant advantage for the French team.
