The extension of Sainz is on track for 2023

Carlos Sainz has recently arrived at Ferrari in 2021 and has had an impressive season. A performance that doesn't go unnoticed, especially in the eyes of Mattia Binotto, team director of Ferrari, who intends to extend the Spanish driver's contract.

Ferrari had a great season in 2021, recovering well from the difficulties they experienced in the 2020 season. This improvement in performance is largely due to the arrival of Carlos Sainz, who took over from the four-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel. In his first year with Ferrari, the Spanish driver managed to finish ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc in the drivers’ standings.

Sainz displayed an impressive consistency throughout the season by finishing in the top ten 20 times out of 22 Grand Prix races. With his contract coming to an end in 2022, Binotto hopes to extend the Spaniard’s contract.

We will sit down with time and try to understand. Certainly, I think he performed very well during the season, [we are] very happy with how he integrated, how he behaved on the track and during race weekends. So, there is no doubt that we will try to reach an agreement. This will be part of the winter period, explains Mattia Binotto.

The extension of Carlos Sainz no longer seems to be in doubt and remains a matter of time before discussions begin.

First, I would like to understand to what extent he is satisfied, have a review of his season, and look ahead together. I think it will be an easy discussion, without a doubt. But so far, we haven’t started,” Binotto explains.

As Sainz’s fate seems to be clarifying, the Ferrari team is well on track to start the 2022 season in great shape and with the ambition to return to their highest level.
