The 2021 Formula 1 championship final continues to generate discussion. While an investigation is underway at the FIA to analyze how the end-of-race decisions were made, several figures in the motorsport industry have expressed their opinions on this highly controversial finale.

Recently, it’s the eight-time World Rally Championship (WRC) champion and recent runner-up at the Monte-Carlo Rally, Sébastien Ogier, who shared his point of view. On RMC, the Gapençais simply believes that Lewis Hamilton was robbed of his title: “It’s certain that it must have been very, very difficult for him to handle. He truly felt cheated, there’s no need to be afraid of the words, he was robbed.”

Ogier also commented on the course of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix while praising the merits of the new world champion: « Even though I have a lot of respect for Max Verstappen, who had a great season, both deserved to be champions but it’s true that on the last weekend… Lewis dominates. He is ahead until the end and then unfortunately for him, a few laps before the finish, there is this famous Safety Car. » And to add: « Either one would have been a worthy champion but it’s true that considering the unfolding of that weekend, it’s a robbery and it’s tough for Hamilton to swallow. So yes, I understand his silence. »

Regarding the future of the British pilot, the likely future endurance driver believes that the 2022 season will not go on without him: « I think he will come back. He is in an extremely competitive environment with the best team at the moment. This year, there are new cars emerging, so there are a lot of questions. But I am quite convinced that he will come back. »
