Marko predicts a difficult season for Hamilton
In addition to the rivalry with Max Verstappen, Helmut Marko believes that other factors could disrupt Lewis Hamilton in his quest for an eighth title.

The 2022 season has not even started yet and already, the psychological battle between Mercedes and Red Bull is slowly taking shape. In an interview with the Austrian press, the sporting advisor of the Red Bull team, Helmut Marko, did not hesitate to say that Lewis Hamilton’s age would soon come into play in the performances of the British champion.
Lewis has had an incredible second half of the 2021 season, but I can’t imagine he can keep driving at this level for much longer. Now that he has reached his peak performance, age is gradually becoming a factor. If you look at the performance pyramid in relation to age, wouldn’t it make sense?
Marko also believes that the seven-time world champion will increasingly struggle against young drivers like Max Verstappen or his new teammate George Russell. Russell will certainly not accept the role of number 2 like Bottas, he will fight for his position and perform straight away.
It remains to be seen whether the future will prove the Austrian leader right or if, like Fernando Alonso, age will have no impact on Lewis Hamilton’s future performances.
