Is Mercedes really in such bad shape? While the German team insists that they are not in the best position this year, and their rivals, on the other hand, don’t believe a word of it, Lewis Hamilton has opened up about the issues with the W13.

« Of course, it’s still a bit early to think about these kinds of things, but for now, I don’t think we’ll be able to fight for victories,” regretted the Brit. « There is potential in our car; we will need to be able to extract it and solve our problems, which is what we are working on.

Asked about the similarity with the 2021 season, where Mercedes was far from competitive in testing, only to win three out of the first four races of the season, Hamilton was more alarmist.

« It’s very different. I don’t think we’ll be able to look as good as last year with bad tests and a radical change to win the race. We have bigger problems this time, and they’re not the kind that can be solved in a week. It will take more time, but from what I’ve been told, we have a lot of speed potential to uncover. »

(e) Everyone is doing an amazing job at the factory but we still have obstacles to overcome. Of course, next week we will have a more realistic view of our speed but I think people might be surprised. Everyone says we’re hiding our game, but it’s a little different this year.

Difficult to say if Mercedes is hiding its game or is truly struggling, the answer will be given next Saturday for the qualifications of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
