Qatar in pole position to replace Russia
The Formula 1 could well return to Qatar this year. The Losail circuit would be the favorite to replace the Russian Grand Prix on the 2022 calendar.

“The Russian Grand Prix has been officially cancelled this year due to the outbreak of war in Ukraine. This has opened up a spot in the calendar, and one circuit seems to be the frontrunner to fill the gap between the Italian and Singapore Grand Prix.”
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, the Qatar Grand Prix could make its return to the calendar after its first edition in 2021. Therefore, the Losail circuit would host Formula 1 for the second time. It’s worth noting that Qatar would have reintegrated the F1 calendar from 2023 anyway, as a 10-year contract was signed last year starting from that date.
The FIA has currently indicated that several tracks are under consideration. The Portuguese Grand Prix at the Portimao circuit, which was greatly appreciated by the drivers in 2020 and 2021, is specifically mentioned.
