In an interview with Crash.net during the Bahrain Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly discussed his situation within the Red Bull group. Despite currently driving for AlphaTauri since 2019, the Frenchman still believes in his chances of returning to a seat with the Austrian team. After starting the 2019 season alongside Max Verstappen, Gasly was demoted to Toro Rosso, the former name of AlphaTauri, after only twelve races.

The native of Rouen has made a name for himself since winning his first victory at Monza in 2020 and securing two other podium finishes (Brazil 2019, Baku 2021) aboard his AlphaTauri. These very satisfying performances certainly did not go unnoticed at Red Bull, but so far they have not allowed him to regain a seat in the team.

« I am a very different driver from three years ago. I think everyone grows in such a situation, now I feel ready. Even if I have a good season, in the end, it is not me who decides. All I can do is perform and we’ll see in the end what comes out of it,” said the Frenchman.

« I think my contractual situation is quite clear. Of course, we will have to discuss it at some point, but for now, we are only in Bahrain, so I don’t want to have that on my mind. I am only focused on performing and achieving good results. I have always known what I am capable of and what I want to accomplish in Formula 1.

Pierre Gasly still believes in his lucky star and thinks that he will have another chance in a top team in his career, without excluding the possibility that it could happen somewhere other than at Red Bull.

At some point, the planets will align, but I can’t speak for Red Bull, it’s up to them to decide. They know me, they know what I’m worth, I’ve been under contract with them for nine years, so I think they have a small idea of my potential. We’ll see if there’s a common interest and if we can work together on this. For now, they are satisfied with their line-up and I’m happy for them because they have shown that they perform well. But I also have to look at what’s best for my career because we don’t have a 50-year career, so I have to make it work at some point, warned Gasly.
