Despite two years without seeing his family in Australia due to the pandemic and an increasingly longer F1 schedule, Daniel Ricciardo does not regret his lifestyle choice.

Formula 1 drivers are among the athletes whose lives make the common mortals dream. To get there, they had to make many sacrifices regarding their families, friends, and the life they had until then.

McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo reflected on his decision to become a Formula 1 driver in an interview with Sports Illustrated. The Australian, who was honored by his country last winter, considers his actions to be choices in life rather than sacrifices. “When you view it as sacrifices, it gives the impression that it was done against your will. In the end, I made the choice to move to Europe myself. I made the choice to leave behind my previous life.”

Beyond the fact of having chosen an uncommon lifestyle, the Australian driver made significant career choices. In late 2018, he made the decision to leave the Red Bull group for a new adventure at Renault. Disappointed with the performance of the French race car, he decided to join McLaren two seasons later. Despite a victory in Monza last year, these choices are still debated, particularly by his former boss at Red Bull, Christian Horner.
