Leclerc on Verstappen: “We hated each other”

After witnessing the incredible duel between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in 2021, F1 fans are once again spoiled in 2022. The battle between the Dutchman and Charles Leclerc has been the main attraction of the early races, with intense yet respectful battles. However, the relationship between the two men hasn’t always been very cordial.

In karting, it was either me or him, and that’s why we hated each other at some point because very often it didn’t end in the best way possible. It’s going to be very tight. It has always been very tight, explains Charles Leclerc to the BBC.

« I don’t know on what points we are stronger than each other. We just have two very different driving styles. Some days, one will win, others, the other will. But I like it, continues the Ferrari driver.

The differences in driving styles, as well as the differences in character between the two men, created electricity during their youth. But this season, respect is required on the track where they engage in beautiful battles like in Bahrain and Jeddah, while keeping it clean.

Despite their battles on the track, the two drivers are already separated by 46 points in the standings, due to Verstappen’s two retirements. Imola will be the fourth stage of a rivalry that, hopefully, will keep us on the edge of our seats throughout the season.
