Leclerc reacts to Sainz’s contract extension and discusses his expectations for this weekend
Charles Leclerc is very happy about his teammate's contract extension. Facing the press, the Ferrari driver also took the opportunity to talk about his expectations for the Imola weekend.

Carlos Sainz has just been extended by Ferrari. The Spanish driver is now linked to the Italian team until 2024. Charles Leclerc, his teammate since 2021, expressed his happiness about this extension: “I am very happy about Carlos’ extension. He is a great driver. We are working in the same direction and we get along perfectly. It’s very good.”
The Monegasque driver took the opportunity to discuss his expectations for the Imola weekend. For the current championship leader, there is no reason why the Reds shouldn’t fight for the top positions: “I don’t see any reasons why we wouldn’t be racing at the front this weekend. The car is performing well, and I’m eager to race in front of the Italian crowd at home.”
Finally, Leclerc said what he thought about the new race weekend format with qualifications starting on Friday afternoon: Regarding the format of the weekend, it’s interesting because usually, Fridays are boring. The first free practice session will be very important. The young driver has reason to be confident. Three races, two victories, and a second place with a 34-point lead over his competitor, George Russell.
