The start of Carlos Sainz’s Italian weekend was not ideal. Going off track in qualifying, the Spaniard saw his chances of starting at the forefront vanish.

But during the sprint race, the Ferrari driver made a fantastic comeback. Starting 10th, he managed to gain six positions and will thus start from the second row for the main race (starting at 3 PM).

« With the way the race unfolded, I knew I had to reach the top 5 and, with a bit of luck, the top 4. I finished P4, I’m in the mix for Sunday. It was a solid race and I’m now ready to fight against everyone,” he told Sky Sports. « I can still win, I can still make it to the podium and finish the weekend being quite satisfied. The important thing is to keep learning from your mistakes,” he added to our colleagues at Motorsport.com.

In Imola, just a few dozen kilometers from Maranello, Carlos Sainz will want to make amends after his retirement in Australia and celebrate his contract extension in the best possible way. The race will start at 3 o’clock.
