Emilia Romagna Grand Prix: Verstappen crushes the competition at Imola
The reigning world champion was able to take full advantage of a highly performing car to dominate at Imola.

Having retained his first position at the start, Max Verstappen was never threatened throughout the entire Grand Prix. While Sergio Perez managed to catch up to his teammate halfway through the race, a brief excursion onto the grass halted the Mexican’s momentum.
While Charles Leclerc spun out at the 14th turn on the 54th lap, the reigning world champion took the fastest lap on the track to leave with 26 points on Ferrari’s home turf.
Throughout this race, the main challenge was to judge the conditions accurately and to stay focused. In the end, I had a slight lead, but I still had to continue managing the race, overtaking the slower competitors.
For the team, it’s a great result. Charles was trying to push in order to fight with Sergio, but it doesn’t knock him off the first position in the championship.
After a disastrous Australian weekend for Max Verstappen, this perfect weekend in Imola sees him jump from 6th to 2nd position. The Dutchman is now only 27 points away from his rival, Charles Leclerc.
