After Lewis Hamilton's tough weekend at Imola, the director of Red Bull's young driver program didn't hold back with criticism towards the British driver.

This season, Lewis Hamilton is not dominating the competition like in previous years. Since the start of the season, the Briton has been struggling, with a string of negative results, while his teammate George Russell is scoring big points with Mercedes.

Marko clashes, Horner competes.

This weekend, in Imola, the seven-time world champion once again had a poor performance, finishing far from the Top 10 and getting lapped by Max Verstappen. This situation led to a reaction from Helmut Marko, the director of Red Bull’s young driver program. He got lapped by Max. I didn’t expect to see that this year, after what happened in 2021. When we see George’s performance with the same car since the beginning of the season, we start to wonder. I mean, he got overtaken by us, so maybe he should have stopped last year, he said to SkySports.

On his side, the director of the Austrian team, Christian Horner, didn’t have strong words towards the Briton, but showed more compassion. He obviously had a horrible weekend, but he remains a seven-time world champion. He hasn’t forgotten how to drive in the last four races, so at some point, they will solve their issues and he will become a factor, I have no doubt about it. But obviously, the young ones are doing an excellent job at the moment.

While Russell has 49 points in the drivers’ championship, the seven-time world champion has only 28 points, just 4 small points ahead of his former teammate, Bottas, and his Alfa Romeo.
