The FIA insists on fireproof clothing and the prohibition of jewelry, a rule that is not respected
The FIA once again provided an update on the wearing of jewelry and fire-resistant clothing during Grand Prix races.

After receiving an initial mention during the Australian Grand Prix, the FIA once again highlights the importance of respecting safety regulations regarding jewelry and fire-resistant clothing. These regulations may seem logical and well-known to everyone, but Lewis Hamilton, despite the first reminder in Melbourne, had decided not to comply, as reported in this article: “Hamilton will not remove his jewelry despite FIA rules.”
In a note from the FIA to the teams, race director Niels Wittich indicates that checks on these safety components will take place starting from this weekend.
“The use of non-fireproof materials in contact with the pilot’s skin, especially synthetic materials, can reduce protection against heat transmission and increase the risk of burns in case of fire,” says Wittich. “In the worst-case scenario, these materials can melt, which can hinder burn treatment.”
« In the event that medical imaging is necessary to make a diagnosis after an accident, the presence of jewelry on the body can cause significant complications and delays,” adds the race director. « In the worst case scenario, the presence of jewelry during imaging can cause additional injuries.
