Ilott is a reserve driver for Alfa Romeo in Miami, replacing Kubica
Callum Ilott has been called up by Alfa Romeo to replace Robert Kubica in a role as the third driver this weekend.

Callum Ilott will make his grand return as the third driver for Alfa Romeo this weekend in Miami. The Formula 2 runner-up in 2020, now competing in the Indycar with Juncos Hollinger Racing, will resume a role he is familiar with at Alfa Romeo, as he already held the position of second reserve driver for the Swiss team last season.
The Cambridge local is called upon to replace Robert Kubica, who is participating this weekend in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in the WEC championship.
Back in the @f1 paddock this weekend ✌️ see you soon Miami 😉🇺🇸

The 23-year-old Briton does not yet know if he will be called back for this role this season, as it would still require the Polish driver’s absence and a schedule that fits his IndyCar demands to see him back in the Alfa Romeo garage. He has already participated in several practice sessions in the premier category, such as during the 2021 Portuguese Grand Prix. Nevertheless, it would still require Valtteri Bottas or Guanyu Zhou to be unable to drive in order to see Ilott at the wheel of a Formula 1 car again, at least for now.
