The track layout of Miami did not help McLaren’s performance for Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo believes that the unique layout of the Miami Grand Prix circuit did not help McLaren to perform well this weekend.

McLaren had a rather complicated weekend in Miami. The outcome is simple, the team leaves Florida with zero points. A complete lack of success that reflects a weekend far from brilliant, with Daniel Ricciardo being eliminated in Q2 during Saturday’s qualifying, while Lando Norris could only manage an 8th place.
The race will not be much better, with Lando Norris retiring due to a collision with Pierre Gasly, and Daniel Ricciardo finishing 11th on the track. Before the race, Ricciardo was penalized with a 5-second penalty, as mentioned in this article, and ultimately finished in 13th position.
Ricciardo is trying to explain this lack of performance from McLaren, which was performing better since Bahrain. Unfortunately, the track played more into our weaknesses than our strengths, so yeah, what can you do. We will continue, there are many things to observe, address, and we will keep our eyes forward. I think this layout certainly played into our weaknesses. Many long corners, many long straights, so we need to work on that.
The Australian wants to be optimistic for Barcelona, where most teams will bring evolutions to their cars. It’s tough when you do a long race like that and don’t score any points, but what’s done is done, we will continue to work. In Barcelona, everyone will have some improvements, I hope ours will bring a bit more power than the others and we will come back strong. Barcelona should suit us a bit more, so I’m looking forward to it.
