As every year, the Spanish Grand Prix is an opportunity for many teams to bring significant upgrades to their cars. While Red Bull and Ferrari have already confirmed the arrival of improvements on the Catalan circuit, Haas, on the other hand, has postponed the package of upgrades initially planned for this weekend to a few races later.

It’s Alpine’s turn to announce developments on their A522, with the introduction of a new rear wing in order to gain a few tenths compared to other midfield teams.

“We have a new rear wing coming for Spain,” said Otmar Szafnauer, before confirming that the upgrade will indeed be introduced on Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso’s cars.

Last year, the French team gained two small points on the Barcelona track thanks to Esteban Ocon’s ninth place finish in the race.

Currently occupying sixth place in the constructors’ championship with 26 points, Alpine hopes to perform better this season at the Spanish Grand Prix in order to catch up with Alfa Romeo, who has five more points.

The ambition is also to further distance themselves from AlphaTauri and Haas, just behind, respectively ten and eleven points behind the Enstone team.
