Ocon wants more updates on the A522 after the Spanish Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon is certainly among the top five drivers of this early season. Performant and consistent, the Frenchman has finished in the points in five out of the six first races. Ninth in the drivers’ standings after the Spanish Grand Prix, Ocon has already scored 30 points while his teammate Fernando Alonso, albeit unlucky, has only scored 4.

Sixth in the constructors’ championship, Alpine seems to be heading towards a battle for fourth place with McLaren and Alfa Romeo in what can be called the “first midfield”. In this position, Esteban Ocon once again performs very well.

Like all teams except Haas, Alpine has brought its fair share of upgrades to Barcelona. “It seems to be working,” Ocon said about this new package. “We know that the other teams are also making progress and that’s what we need to keep an eye on,” the Frenchman added.

But despite everything, Ocon naturally wants his team to continue regularly bringing evolutions, because despite a good result in Barcelona, the Normand is not satisfied with it. « But we certainly have to bring more things because P7 is good, but we are not where we want to be. And we have to push harder to catch up with the Alfa [Romeo] cars that are ahead of us and the others. »

We think he has a lot to review this weekend. We had very good discussions with the team, with Fernando, very good debates. We have quite a few directions on which we are fairly clear and that the team and we must identify exactly, because it is complicated to fully understand everything at the moment with this car.

The target to aim for Alpine is therefore the fourth place in the constructors’ standings. Facing Alfa Romeo and McLaren, who are currently the most serious contenders, Alpine will have to continue to bring developments in order to make the necessary progress that is missing for them.
