1 championship, 3 drivers

Sergio Perez clinches his first victory in 2022 on Charles Leclerc’s home turf, closing the gap to him to 6 points and to his teammate Max Verstappen, who is currently leading the world championship, to 15 points. It is not impossible that this momentum will continue throughout the season. Perez’s consistency and experience make him capable of fighting for the top spot. It remains to be seen if Red Bull will give the Mexican driver a chance.

A little lower down, Carlos Sainz caught up with George Russell with his podium finish and is only 1 point behind the Englishman. Both drivers remain a distance away from the top of the standings, with 27 and 26 points behind Max Verstappen respectively.

Following his 8th place finish, Lewis Hamilton finds himself threatened by Lando Norris, with only a 2-point lead over his compatriot. We then have Valtteri Bottas a good distance behind Esteban Ocon who is leading, followed by Kevin Magnussen in 10th place, but this position is highly contested by Ricciardo, Tsunoda and, following his 7th place finish, Fernando Alonso.

Red Bull is widening the gap on Ferrari.

Following Ferrari’s strategic disaster, going from a one-two finish to a 2nd and 4th place, Red Bull was able to regain valuable points and now holds a 36-point lead over its direct rival, solidifying its position as the championship’s leading constructor.

Isolated in its 3rd place, Mercedes is ahead of a disputed 4th place between McLaren, Alfa Romeo, and Alpine, with the latter now only one point behind the Italian team.

Very little change at the bottom of the table, despite Vettel securing a point for Aston Martin, who are trailing Haas by eight points.
