Sainz wants more clarity from the FIA on fines
Penalized with a fine of €25,000 during the third practice session, Carlos Sainz would like more consistency in the decisions of the FIA after the Monaco Grand Prix.

Saturday morning, Free Practice 3. Carlos Sainz receives a reprimand and a €25,000 fine for impeding Lance Stroll in the final turns of the circuit. This is just one of many penalties this weekend, as is usual on the streets of the principality, where it is very difficult to let faster cars pass.
But for Sainz, this penalty shows a lack of consistency from the FIA regarding sanctions given to drivers. « I can’t count the number of times I was impeded in Monaco this weekend, sometimes dangerously and sometimes not, » declares the Spaniard. « What I don’t understand is why we received a fine of €25,000 as a team for impeding, which I accept and apologized to Lance for, but other cases are not being investigated and others are not receiving a fine for the exact same thing. »
The Spaniard takes as an example the case of Latifi, who hindered him during the race. « It cost us the race and there was “no further action”, and it was an appropriate hindrance. That’s where we ask for more clarity and consistency, it’s as simple as that. »
Binotto also reacted to this penalty received by Sainz. As we know, traffic in Monaco is always very difficult. And it seems that radio communications are essential. We did our best, we believe it certainly wasn’t dangerous. We are not very happy about the fine.
