Perez: “An incredible week” after his contract extension
Officially extended by Red Bull for two more years, Sergio Perez is living a dream week. Winning in Monaco, the Mexican is back in the title fight and continues the adventure with the Austrian team.

Who in the paddock will have had a better week than Sergio Perez? Certainly no one. The Mexican has just added his name to the list of winners of the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix, to reward a weekend where, it must be pointed out, he was the stronger of the two Red Bull drivers.
Thanks to the 25 points from the victory, “Checo” has also returned to join the championship battle between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. The Mexican, who clearly announced his ambition to become world champion with Red Bull, could well become a party pooper in the anticipated head-to-head. He now has only a 6-point deficit to the Ferrari driver and 15 points behind his teammate.
As good news never comes alone, Red Bull has officially announced the extension of his contract with the team for two more years. A decision that delighted the Mexican.
For me, this week has been incredible. Winning the Monaco Grand Prix is a dream for every driver, and announcing that I will stay with the team until 2024 makes me extremely happy. I am so proud to be a member of this team, and I feel completely at home here now. Perez celebrated in a statement from Red Bull.
(English) We work very well together and my relationship with Max, both on and off the track, certainly contributes to pushing us even further. We have built a great momentum as a team and this season is proof of that. I am excited to see where it can lead us in the future,” continues “Checo”.
The former Force India driver, who is already in his twelfth season in Formula 1, saw his career take an unexpected turn in 2020. As a familiar name in the midfield teams, Sergio Perez had a monumental season wearing Racing Point colors, finishing fourth in the championship and becoming a Grand Prix winner (in Sakhir).
A great year that didn’t convince the team (now Aston Martin) owned by Lawrence Stroll to keep it, preferring the arrival of Sebastian Vettel. But Alex Albon’s troubles at Red Bull left a vacant seat at the Austrian team which the Mexican was offered, even though many thought his Formula 1 career was over.
A convincing first season and an even better start to 2022 have convinced the Red Bull team to keep Sergio Perez, now a triple Grand Prix winner, alongside Max Verstappen for two more years. It is a recognition for someone who, at 32 years old, finally has a car capable of winning consistently. Is it enough to challenge for the title? He has fifteen races left to prove himself capable.
