Alonso: “We can be satisfied with a seventh place”
Fernando Alonso appreciated his best result of the 2022 season so far with a 7th place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix, but these points came with their share of difficulties.

Fernando Alonso and his Alpine team made a bold gamble on Sunday on a drying track by directly switching from wet tires to slicks without intermediates. This daring choice allowed him to gain a few positions. After the red flag, he found himself having to fight with his former rival Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes and preserve his medium tires in the final part of the race.
“It was a really difficult race given the conditions, so we can be happy with seventh place and extra points in the championship. It was a tense race to manage with complex strategic choices, but we did everything right as a team and it was really well handled. Behind the wheel, it wasn’t easy, and I had to be careful not to make any mistakes to bring the car to the finish in the points. On the dry stints, thanks to what we had learned on Friday, we had to be delicate on this tire, especially for me after the last red flag. We held on to a comfortable seventh place, so I’m quite happy with today’s work.”
The 6 points brought in by Alonso allow Alpine to be in 6th place behind Alfa Romeo with just a 1 point difference, and to further widen the gap with AlphaTauri.
The Alpine is not yet at the desired level of performance by the two drivers, but their progress is interesting, hoping that the Baku Grand Prix will be favorable to them.
Solid drive on a weekend that had a bit of everything 💪#MonacoGP pic.twitter.com/jfNfEOPt75
