Vettel defends Aston Martin against accusations of copying from Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel defends his team. It is accused of having copied Red Bull to develop the AMR22. According to the German, the criticisms are not justified as Aston Martin had planned these developments even before the start of the season.

The new AMR22 has caused a lot of controversy in recent days. Aston Martin has brought a very different car to Monaco compared to the one they used at the beginning of the season. The English team has received a lot of criticism for the similarities between their car and Red Bull’s RB18.
A case that is not without reminding one of the “Pink Mercedes” from two years ago. At that time named Racing Point, the team had arrived at the beginning of the season with a car that, to the naked eye, was an exact replica of the 2019 world champion Mercedes. Racing Point was then punished with a 15 point deduction in the constructors’ standings for copying the brake ducts, but the rest of the car was declared legal.
As a new scandal hovers over the team, Sebastian Vettel stepped up to defend the design of this second version of the AMR22.
(I) I think that at some point, it’s not fair, especially with all the efforts that have been made to further develop the car, explains the German, who specifies that this new single-seater has been planned for a long time. (I) The decision was made very early – I don’t remember exactly when, but I think it was before the first race. A lot of work has been done from there because it is essentially a new car.
The German also denies any involvement of Dan Fallows, the head of aerodynamics at Aston Martin, who left Red Bull in April.
For Vettel, the debate should not be reduced “to a personal level”.
« I don’t think it’s fair. Some things that have been said were not fair in my opinion. He’s a really good guy. I’ve known him since my time at Red Bull. » explains the four-time world champion.
