A first victory for Sainz in F1 that shouldn’t be long now
After a difficult start to the season, Carlos Sainz makes a clear assessment of his performances. The Spaniard knows that he is not missing much to go for his first victory, even if he admits to struggling more with the car.

Carlos Sainz is struggling at the beginning of the season. The Spaniard is clearly dominated by his teammate Charles Leclerc, who is second in the championship and a double Grand Prix winner. Whether in qualifying (7-0 for the Monégasque) or in race (5-2), Sainz is struggling to reach the same level as last year, when he was able to keep up with Leclerc.
But the Spaniard is aware and knows what he is missing in order to be able to join the fight for victories and achieve his first success in Formula 1.
« I just need to be a bit faster. I need one or two tenths, in qualifying and in race pace. » explains the former McLaren driver. « If I find those one or two tenths that I found in the second half of last year with last year’s car, the sooner I find them, the sooner the victory will come. I’ve worked hard to find them. »
Even if he is already practically eliminated from the title fight, Carlos Sainz must quickly regain his composure in order to rediscover the performances he showed last year and in previous seasons with McLaren. His numerous crashes and track exits seems to have undermined his confidence and show that he is not as comfortable as he would like with the F1-75.
« You can see that I am not yet there with the car compared to last year, that I don’t drive naturally,” admits Sainz. « The car is a bit too sharp for my liking, but that’s how it is. You can either adapt or bring your car a bit more to your liking. Either way, these two things take time and require knowledge and experience. »
« It takes mistakes and trials and errors, and that’s what I’m doing right now and what I will try to correct as soon as possible,” concludes the Spanish. Despite these disappointing performances this season, Sainz retains the trust of Ferrari, who have extended his contract for an additional two years (until 2024).
