Hamilton supports Leclerc and Ferrari in the fight for the title
Lewis Hamilton has been invited to give his preference in the battle for the title. The Briton leans towards Charles Leclerc and Ferrari, a team he adores and would have loved to drive for.
Ferrari does not lack supporters, but it has one more. Lewis Hamilton, interviewed by the Corriere Della Serra on the sidelines of the Monaco Grand Prix, declared that he supports Ferrari in the mano a mano against Red Bull in the fight for the two championships.
« So you assume that we, Mercedes, are doomed? Don’t underestimate us (laughs). » Lewis Hamilton had fun in front of the journalist who asked him who he wanted to see win the title between Red Bull and Ferrari. « Ferrari is stronger in qualifying and Red Bull in the race. But it changes with each race and Ferrari has shown that they know how to create a good car.
« And Charles [Leclerc] is very strong, you can see it. And I’ll add one thing: if I could sit with the fans over there, I would support Charles. I am a Ferrari fan. » he continues.
The seven-time world champion does not hide his affection for the Scuderia, a team he would have liked to race for. However, he emphasizes his attachment and loyalty to his “family” Mercedes.
« Of course, it would have been nice to race for Ferrari during my career, but things happen for specific reasons: Mercedes is my family, I will always be a Mercedes driver, just like Stirling Moss was. » declares the British.
Hamilton’s loyalty to the Mercedes team is impressive. He joined the McLaren-Mercedes group as early as 1998 through the young driver program. He then secured his first seat in F1 with the Woking team in 2007 and won his first championship title the following year. And in 2013, the Stevenage native joined Mercedes to accumulate all the records that we know him for.
Despite his love for Ferrari and numerous rumors that sent him to the Scuderia throughout his career, Lewis Hamilton will probably never have the opportunity to drive one of the legendary red cars. But his immense list of achievements with Mercedes will certainly help him console himself.
