After losing a title in the last race against Max Verstappen last season, some see Lewis Hamilton as showing signs of fatigue in Formula 1. Less flamboyant at the start of the year 2022, at 37 years old, the seven-time world champion continues to express his desire to remain in the premier category of motorsport.

After seven Grand Prix this season, the W13 does not seem to offer Hamilton and Russell the opportunity to fight for the world championship title. A car that suits the 37-year-old Briton less, who recently declared to be annoyed by the jostling on his car.

However, the Stevenage-native does not want to stop racing in Formula 1 for now. When questioned by the Italian media Corriere della Sera, Lewis Hamilton expresses his desire to continue in the premier category. When asked if he will still be present at the age of 40, here is his response. « Difficult question! Let’s take this season. I probably won’t win the title, but I still feel the same pleasure in racing as when I started. Why should I stop? Maybe one day I won’t be able to handle the pressure anymore, I’ll be tired, but that day has not arrived yet. »

Lewis Hamilton still believes in an eighth world championship title. « Of course, I believe in it [a new title]. I have been with these guys (Mercedes, editor’s note) for 10 years. I know how they work. We win and lose together. They are very motivated. They give their all to bring us back to the top. »

According to his statements, if there were still doubts, Lewis Hamilton will be present after the 2022 season. With his contract extending until the end of the 2023 season, the British driver could choose to retire after two years under the new regulations.
