Alfa Romeo hopes for a better weekend in Baku
Not as comfortable as some predicted in Monaco, Alfa Romeo wants to bounce back in Baku. Frédéric Vasseur hopes that both his cars will score points.

Two weeks ago in Monaco, Alfa Romeo was seen as a team that could surprise, as the concept of their C42 seemed to perfectly fit the characteristics of the track at the Rocher. Ultimately, several factors caused Frederic Vasseur’s team to not perform as well as expected and they were only able to bring back two points with Valtteri Bottas finishing in ninth place.
For a team playing for fourth place in the constructors’ championship, a ninth place finish and another car outside the points is not enough. Especially when, at the same time, McLaren brought in nine points thanks to Lando Norris’ sixth place finish and Alpine got six points following Fernando Alonso’s seventh place finish.
Frédéric Vasseur believes that Baku can once again suit the car’s configuration. « I expect our car to be suited to this track, but once again, our C42 has performed well in all types of circuits so far. The objectives remain the same as in previous races: to progress as much as possible with both cars in qualifying, and aim for a double points finish on Sunday. »
Vasseur highlights his team’s strong start to the season, while also emphasizing that the extremely small gaps in the midfield force the team to never let their guard down. « We are heading to Baku with the goal of continuing our team’s progress this season. We have been doing very well so far and we can be satisfied with the results we have achieved, but we know that we must continue to work hard in every race to make the most of each weekend. We saw in Monaco how tight the gaps are: you can go from P6 to P16 in the blink of an eye. That’s why we need to be really sharp and get the best out of each session, each lap. »
After a more challenging than expected Monaco Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo could see McLaren take off and Alpine overtake them in the event of a poor performance in Azerbaijan this weekend.
