The title is not Ferrari’s priority for 2022
While Ferrari finds itself in a position of contender for the world championship title, Mattia Binotto announces that he does not want to change their objectives for 2022.

Currently lagging behind the leader by 36 points, Ferrari had nonetheless started the season very well. However, a few mistakes and mechanical issues completely changed the situation for the Maranello team. But the director of the Scuderia announces that he doesn’t want to increase the pace because of these setbacks.
After a forgettable 2020 season for Ferrari, and a better but still far from the greatness of its aura 2021 season, 2022 has started strong with a double win in Bahrain. Binotto explains: “The goal for 2022 was to win races, not the championship. Our objective was to be competitive again in 2022. So our goal is to be competitive, not to win the championship, and it would be a big mistake to turn our objective into ‘let’s win the title because we are so competitive.’ Being in the race is one thing, becoming World Champion is a task of a completely different level. I think it would be bad management-wise to completely change our goals from those that have been set.”
This doesn’t mean that Ferrari won’t fight to regain a golden age like they had with Michael Schumacher: « There is no doubt about our willingness to enter a cycle of becoming World Champions, but only once, and try to stay at the top. But it will take time », adds Mattia Binotto. « Our internal mindset is that we need to improve the team together to be able to win the championship. This doesn’t mean that we won’t do it this year. Maybe we will achieve it as soon as possible, but we are aware that it’s more than just being competitive. »
« Ambition is present. Every person who works for Ferrari has this ambition. I don’t think I need to remind them of it. The most important thing is to let them focus on our goal of continuous improvement, so every race is an opportunity […], to build something greater. And it is important to stay focused on each race. We don’t look at the rankings.

Last year, Charles Leclerc claimed pole position in Baku. Ferrari, therefore, has high hopes for this weekend, but once again, the top speed of the Red Bull is their biggest enemy.
