Fernando Alonso is excited for Baku
After achieving his best result of the season in Monaco, finishing 7th, Fernando Alonso is excited for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
7th in the Monaco Grand Prix after a great performance, Alpine and Fernando Alonso arrive in Baku with an improved car and high ambitions. The Spaniard intends to continue his good run of point-scoring races on a track that he enjoys a lot.
Having participated in the Grand Prix in Baku 4 times, Alonso has experienced great moments in this race, including his comeback from the back of the pack in 2018 after a double puncture in the first lap. The two-time World Champion is looking forward to this new edition.
« Baku is a circuit where it is possible to overtake at several places. In my last three races there, I managed to gain a significant number of positions during the race. In this aspect, it is very different from Monaco, » Alonso admits on the eve of the eighth round of the year.
« It is a fun circuit, where overtaking is possible. There is a mix of high and low-speed turns and a very long straightaway. You need to have a setup accordingly. It will be interesting to see how the 2022 single-seaters will perform on this circuit.

« I can’t really compare it to a track we’ve already raced on this year. Also, here, your race doesn’t necessarily depend on your performance on Saturday, and the established order can be completely disrupted by a safety car. I think it will be a fun race and I’m looking forward to taking on this challenge!
