Lewis Hamilton and Brazil, the love story continues. This Thursday, the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies adopted a bill to make the British driver an honorary citizen of the country. The initiative was launched after last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix, in which Hamilton had a magnificent weekend and came out victorious. The Stevenage-born driver, after his win, paid tribute to his idol, the three-time world champion Ayrton Senna, by waving a Brazilian flag before and during the podium ceremony.

Behind the emotional side that represents the country of his idol, Lewis Hamilton has always stated that he loves Brazil. This love even helps him in his sport, as it is here that he won his first world championship title in 2008, as well as three victories in 2016, 2018, and 2021.

On social media, the person who had already been knighted by Prince Charles in Great Britain last December expressed great appreciation for this recognition. « Speechless. Today, I received honorary citizenship from one of my favorite places in the world. I don’t really have the words right now. Thank you Brazil, I love you, I can’t wait to see you again, » he first wrote on his Instagram account. He also added a simple « I love you Brazil » on his Twitter account.
