Four consecutive World Champion titles, 53 victories, 57 pole positions. The track record amassed by Sebastian Vettel over the years is impressive, but the recent seasons haven’t been the most memorable of his career, so his retirement seems to be rapidly approaching.

Although Aston Martin has never hidden its desire to keep the German driver in its ranks, Vettel still has to make his decision for 2023. Today, as a family man, his personal life is becoming difficult to manage with the pace of Formula 1.

During the press conference of the Baku Grand Prix, he stated, “I love driving this car, but there are also things I don’t like. After so many years, many classic elements that are not understood at first appear, like travels. It requires a lot of time and I have a family and children waiting for me at home, so it means time away from them.”

The future depends on this year and the upcoming races. I haven’t made my decision yet. Summer is the perfect time for discussion so we’ll see then.

However, the German is reluctant to the idea of a life outside the cockpit: « I have been involved in motor racing my whole life and it gives me a sense of security. I don’t know what life outside of Formula 1 looks like, and I don’t know if any athlete knows what life after looks like. »

« I don’t expect to find something tomorrow where I am really talented, because I have already found what I am very good at, and it is very complicated to find that. How many times can one win the lottery? »
